On April 15, 1946, the 1st Kaohsiung County Senate was set up at Yat-Sen Hall, Feng-Shan Town after the recovery of Taiwan from Japanese occupation. At that time, the Kaohsiung County's administration district covered Pingtung County, 60 senators were elected. Among them, Yeh Teng-Chi and Liu Chao-Szu were elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker.
The Speaker and Deputy Speaker resigned when the 15th session of the 1st Senate was held on April 27, 1950. Chen K un-Lun and Chen Ching-Wen were then elected as Speaker and Deputy Speaker as the 16th session was held on July 20, 1950.
They took office until the administration district was divided into Kaohsiung County and Pingtung County in Oct. 1950. The central government announced the "Home Rule" of local government would start in 1951.
General election was adopted. Kaohsiung County, including 24 Hsiangs / Towns in the plain area and 3 Hsiangs in the mountain area, was divided into 10 electorates. On Dec. 17, 1950, 47 councilors, including four women, were elected. The first Kaohsiung County Council was formally set up on Jan. 11, 1951. Chen Ching-Wen and Lin Tien-Ting were elected as The Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The "Home Rule" of Kaohsiung County began. |
